The Ungeløftet Scholarship

The Ungeløftet scholarship aims to give young people between 16-29 who are not in education or employment the opportunity to attend a college by providing a subsidy towards the cost of attending a college.

The Ungeløftet scholarship can be applied for by young people between the ages of 16-29 who have not completed a youth education* and are not employed more than 18 hours per week.

The applicant must be a resident of Denmark and have been enrolled in a Danish primary school in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade.

The applicant must not receive disability pension or SU.

Applications can be made on an ongoing basis.

The application must be submitted before the student starts at the college.

The scholarship is DKK 1.170 per week.

Scholarships for stays at spring semester Applications can be submitted from September 1 to December 1.

Scholarships for stays at fall semester Applications can be submitted from March 1 to June 1.

The application is made in collaboration with the university college, so you must be enrolled before you can apply for the scholarship.
We are happy to help the young person with the process.

The scholarship is DKK 1.170 per week.

Folk High School with Danish and mathematics

If you have not completed a youth education and are applying for admission to a college course of at least 12 weeks, where you choose the subjects Hidden Talents or Author's Workshop, you have the opportunity to apply for support for your college stay.

You can apply for a scholarship for the project called “Folk High School with Danish and Mathematics”. The scholarship will cover your own tuition fees. Contact the college for more information.

The scholarship is applied for at the Danish Folk High Schools Association before the start of the stay, and the application must be submitted before the student starts at the college.

The application is prepared in collaboration between the student and the college. Therefore, the college must be contacted prior to application.

We recommend that you contact us no later than June 15th for admission to the Fall and Full-Year Courses and no later than December 1st for admission to the Spring Course.

EGU students

As part of their EGU, FGU students can take school courses at a college for up to one third of the length of the preparatory education.

The scheme means that the self-payment for the college stay is financed by the state.

STU students

It is possible to take an STU course at a college. The purpose of combining an STU with a course at a college is to develop the professional, personal and social skills of the young person.

STU courses at a college are granted in accordance with the STU Act or the Act on Active Employment Efforts (LAB).

The Danish Royal College Scholarship

If you are Danish, Greenlandic, Faroese or equivalent, and between the ages of 18 and 25, you can apply for the Danish Folk High School Scholarship to stay on a long course at a folk high school in Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. However, you can only apply for a scholarship to stay in an area where you do not reside.
This means that if you reside in Denmark, you can only apply for a scholarship for a stay at a university college in the Faroe Islands or Greenland and vice versa.

You can apply for the scholarship all year round, however, the course you are applying for must have a start date within 12 months (if the course starts on, for example, August 1, you can apply from this date the year before).

The scholarship consists of a grant of DKK 700 per week to reduce your expenses for your stay at the folk high school. As funds are limited, you can receive a scholarship for a maximum of 20 weeks, regardless of whether you stay at different folk high schools.

For young people from the Danish minority in South Schleswig

Students from South Schleswig, who are part of the Danish minority, can apply for support for their stay at a high school from the Border Association. The Alving Foundation provides a grant of DKK 5.000 to young people from the Danish minority in South Schleswig who register for a long high school course (minimum 12 weeks) at a South Jutland high school. The grant is given to young people aged 25 or less who have completed their schooling at a Danish school in South Schleswig.

Scholarships for Ukrainian and Russian youth

Ukrainian and Russian young citizens can apply for grants for long courses at Danish university colleges. The pool is administered by FFD and the scholarship is applied for by the school for the individual student. The scholarship is temporarily limited to autumn 2025.

Scholarships for a stay at a folk high school can be awarded with an amount of currently DKK 576 per week, corresponding to the lowest student payment a folk high school can charge. This means that the folk high school must reduce the price to half of the minimum weekly payment. Folk High School thus provides a significant discount to this group of students and the scholarship enables the students to participate in the stay for free.

The scholarship is applied for by the school for the individual student and paid to the school.

The scholarship has application deadlines in April and October.
