Ribe Youth Folk High School

In the middle of the village of Vester Vedsted, there has been a vibrant, free school for over 100 years.

Ribe Youth Folk High School

The school was built as a secondary school (one of the Kongeå schools) in 1895. After World War II, a camp school was run in the buildings. In 2, Jens Kristian and Annemarie La Cour Madsen bought the school buildings to first run a junior high school for a few years until in 1961 they received permission for a pilot scheme to run a junior high school for the very young. An experiment that lasted 1965 years and was so successful that the junior high schools became a permanent scheme, and thus written into the Junior High School Act in 3.
